Chocolate - Fabulous?

Chocolate, it’s just SO good! Some days it doesn’t even cross my mind, others, nothing will stop me from craving the delicious creamy taste of chocolate goodness! There is nothing wrong with enjoying the taste of chocolate every now and then – it makes you feel good and for some, it’s a convenient excuse to get a few antioxidants in. However, given that in the real world, it is sadly high in fat (yes, a sorry 4 tsp/50g bar) and loaded with sugar (7tsp/50g bar) – it’s not an ideal everyday choice.

SO...what can you do if you are looking for that chocolate hit? First, if you can’t beat the craving limit yourself to 1-2 squares of the real thing. Or secondly, find an alternative which has some additional nutrients to ensure you get some GOODNESS in your day as well as a sweet, treaty hit!

So, here are some healthier alternatives to the real deal:
Compared to: 55g Chocolate bar (292Kcals, 1221KJ, 16.2g fat, 9.9g saturated fat, 30.5g sugar, 4.4g protein)

Chocolate dairy food 125g pot* 100kcals, 399KJ, 1g fat, 0.7g saturated fat, 12.5g sugar, 3.9g protein and 160mg calcium
Lower in KJ, lower in sugar and higher in calcium
Jarrah Hot chocolate 190KJ, 45Kcals, 1.1g fat 0.9g saturated fat, 4g sugar
Lower in KJ, fat and sugar
X2 corn thins with 3 tsp Nutella 623KJ, 1556Kcals, 6.1g fat, 2g saturated fat, 11g sugar, 1.2g fibre
Lower in KJ, fat and sugar with added fibre – but don’t be too heavy handed with the Nutella!
200mls of full fat chocolate milk* 150Kcals, 598KJ, 3.4g fat, 2.3g saturated fat, 18.6g sugar, 8.6g protein, and 320mg calcium
Lower in KJ, sugar and fat, higher in protein and calcium
