Spring is here, summer is coming

Yee ha! Is anyone else just champing for spring and summer, or is it just me?! I am sure you too must be sick to death of the rain, wind and walking out of the house in what seemed like a sensible outfit and realising you are either a) going to freeze all day and look REALLY silly in your meeting with your lack of clothing or b) sweat your bum off having dressed for winter and instead a warm day arrives! The clocks have changed and it’s time for us to say goodbye to the ‘safe’ clothes that have been hiding any bumps and wobbles and get your body, mind and spirit READY to bare those arms, legs and….heaven forbid… to bring out the togs!! It is, of course, an IDEAL time to start focusing on eating well, knocking off the nightly chocolate munching and getting your trainers on. It is time, people, to feel AWESOME!! Here are my top tips to get you ready to SPRING into action!!

  1. Keep a food diary for a week – have a look at what you are actually eating! Highlight the things you would like to change to order to move into a healthier spring and work out what is the best way to tackle the changes!
  2. Find an exercise buddy, join a boot camp, walk to and from work, go for a jog when you get home from work, start Zumba, go to a yoga class, try boxing – whatever it is – get active, try to do something every day and get into a routine!
  3. Take your lunch and snacks to work – buying food out can mean bigger portions and more KJ and fat than you need. If this sounds like you, it’s time to get clever with your leftovers, making sarnies and salads!
  4. Watch your booze – you might have been on the red vino and mulled wines over the last while, and it won’t be long until the G+T’s are calling and chilled white wine is looking…good!! Remember, the KJ add up quickly and the weight can easily pile on, so work out how you can manage this with alcohol free days, and use alternatives such as soda water or diet drinks.
  5. Get your friends and family involved in a healthy lifestyle – it is WAY easier when other people around you are eating well and being active too!
