Support Alongside
GLP-1s & Weight Loss Medication
With the increasing use of GLP-1 receptor agonists in Aotearoa New Zealand, many GPs are seeking trusted nutrition partners to support patients alongside pharmacotherapy.
At Mission Nutrition, we work alongside you to help patients get the most out of medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Saxenda.
We see GLP-1 therapy as a valuable clinical tool, not a quick fix, but an opportunity.
Reduced appetite and improved satiety can create a window where patients are more able to establish sustainable eating patterns, improve diet quality, and work on behaviours that previously felt overwhelming due to food noise or emotional eating.
Our role is to ensure nutritional adequacy while intake is reduced and help build realistic, long-term habits
Just as importantly, we prepare patients for what happens next. As many will discontinue medication at some stage, we focus on equipping them with the skills and structure needed to maintain progress and minimise rebound weight gain.
We have developed a custom GLP-1 assessment tool, this framework evaluates:
-
Screening for contraindications (e.g. pancreatitis history, gallbladder disease, thyroid cancer risk)
Review of relevant blood markers where available
-
Dieting history and weight cycling patterns
Screening for disordered eating
Relationship with food and body image considerations
-
Protein intake and muscle preservation risk
Calcium and bone health risk
Fibre and gut health status
Hydration status
Micronutrient sufficiency
Risk of rebound weight gain post treatment
-
Resistance training engagement
Sleep and stress factors
Food environment and support systems
Potential cost barriers and long-term adherence
Socio-economic factors
Our approach
Mission Nutrition’s focus is not simply weight reduction, but improved metabolic health, preserved lean mass, and long-term sustainability.
All clients receive education regarding:
Potential side effects and warning signs
The importance of protein and resistance training

The necessity of sustainable habit change
Our role is to help:
Protect nutritional adequacy
Minimise muscle loss
Reduce risk of micronutrient deficiency
Support safe, sustainable behaviour change
Provide continuity of care if/when medication is discontinued
